I can't believe I just did that. How are they ever going to forgive me?
We've all been there. We did something we think { and sometimes is } absolutely horrid. Either your parents just find out or you confess. They punish you. Either by taking away your phone, adding extra chores, or forbidding you to hang out with your friends. There will a l w a y s be consequences to wrong choices we make. Either by your parents or God.
Like parents, God will punish you for your wrongdoings. He sees everything. The good, and the bad. You might think it's unfair when your parents punish/discipline you, but it's for your good. Same with God, He does it to help you. Not make your life miserable.
Maybe you've made some really bad choices in your life. Maybe you started drinking, trying drugs or had sex before marriage. Your only thoughts are, how can God ever love me? How can He ever forgive me? Here's the thing. Did making those bad choices stop you from being your parents child? No. In the same way, making bad decisions doesn't disown you from God's family. God doesn't say, "Oh no. She's done something bad, she isn't my child anymore." If that were the case, He wouldn't have any children.
Does this mean we should go and sin or continue to make bad choices? Of course not. God wants us to obey Him and serve Him with all our hearts. He wants to guide us down the right path. But this does mean that no matter what you've done, if you truly ask for forgiveness, He will forgive you. He loves you too much for you to just wilt away with worry that you are no longer His child.
We should continuously try with all our hearts to obey God. But just know that when you screw up, God is right there to accept your apology, forgive you, and get you started back on the right track.
